Aiken motorcycle victim identified

A motorcyclist died Thursday night after she was thrown from her bike and hit by two vehicles.

She was identified as Rachel Baker, 24, of North Augusta, said Aiken County Coroner Tim Carlton.

South Carolina Highway Patrol Lance Cpl. Judd Jones said the 2007 Kawasaki was on U.S. Highway 1 near Aiken Technical College about 8 p.m. when Baker swerved to avoid an animal, lost control and was thrown off.

A 1999 Ford pickup and a 2004 Ford sport utility vehicle hit Baker in the road. She was pronounced dead at the scene from body trauma.

The incident remains under investigation by the highway patrol.

Hers was Aiken County’s seventh traffic fatality of the year.
