At a hearing in Columbia County, Landon “Dock” Norman III, 41, pleaded guilty to first-degree cruelty to children, enticing a child for indecent purposes, child molestation and criminal attempt to influence a witness. Superior Court Judge J. Carlisle Overstreet sentenced Norman to 15 years in prison followed by 10 years on probation and a $1,500 fine.
Overstreet also sentenced Juliana Erin Key, 31, of Augusta, to a year on probation under the First Offender Act after she pleaded guilty to criminal attempt to intimidate a witness.
Norman is accused of inappropriately touching a then-16-year-old girl in early 2010. She initially recanted but then cooperated after the second victim went to authorities.
He’s also accused of touching a 14-year-old girl in his car at Riverside Park in June 2011. The acts, which were consensual, according to District Attorney Rex Myers, include touching and oral sex. Norman and the girl knew each other from the park, where his son and her brother played ball together.
Norman and the teen also carried on a sexually explicit relationship on Facebook and the pair exchanged nude photos.
After his October 2011 arrest, Myers said Norman enlisted the help of Key and a fellow inmate at the Columbia County Detention Center to intimidate the victim and possibly vandalize her home in an attempt to coerce her to change her story. The inmate told jailers. Key was arrested in December 2011 and was released after posting bond.
Norman has been held in the jail without bond since his arrest. He was initially charged with several sex charges including aggravated sodomy, child molestation, aggravated child molestation, sexual battery and electronically furnishing obscene material to a minor.
