Wallet with $9,000 in cash reported stolen from hotel room

  • Follow Crime & courts

A Martinez woman told deputies her wallet – containing nearly $9,000 in cash – was taken Thursday from an Augusta hotel room.

Luara Beasley, 33, of the 400 block of Prescott Drive in Martinez, said the wallet was stolen between 8 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. from a hotel room at 3039 Washington Road, according to a Richmond County Sheriff’s Office incident report.

In addition to $8,900 in cash, Beasley’s wallet contained her driver’s license, Social Security card, birth certificate and two checks worth $200 each.

Beasley told authorities that only family members and a woman staying in the room next to hers had been inside her room during the time when the theft occurred.

Gee, I'm surprised the family

Gee, I'm surprised the family Bible wasn't in there. If I had $9,000 cash on me, it'd be about $4,500 in each cup.

That is too cute. My only question is why do you have that much cash on you any way.

Why doesn't the AC just come

Why doesn't the AC just come out and say that it is the Travel Lodge? Why just give the address? The address alone doesn't mean anything.

SS card, driver's license, birth certificate, $9k, credit card

She was on her way to get her new post March 1st auto tag and pay the Title Tax. Cash amounts below $10K do not red flag the feds.

The website does say bring "legal tender".

Here is a bit of advice

Hotel SAFE.

IF this really happened.
She lives in Martinez and rents a Washington Rd. Motel room.
She Leaves a wallet with $8,900 in cash and all her ID's/documents
in the room knowing housekeeping, family and etc. have access?
She is out and about in town with NO ID, $$$ and etc.. for 8 hours?

It just does not add up.

I checked the police report. That is how they have it spelled. If they tell us it's wrong, we'll change it.

Please follow up; there is more to this than is being told so far. I guess if the victim says no more there will be no more to tell; but the whole thing is just fishey.

Not quite right

Why if you live local would you be in a motel room not too far from where you live and carry that kind of cash and documents on you. Unless you were visiting family in town and they were staying at the hotel. Either way it is just plain STUPID to be carrying that kind of cash on you at any time. Something is not quite right with this story.

Maybe she was visiting the relatives in the motel..

And if she's absolutely sure that only family members and the woman next door were in the room, then heck - she shouldn't have to go too far to find the money. Surely they've been frisked....

I'd also be curious if there was hallway surveillance - surely that would show if anyone else entered the room..

You would have to have little puppies and

big cups to handle that much cash. Can you imagine the wad of bills even if were $100.00s.

So where was she from 8:00am until 4:30pm without her wallet and driver's license and how can a wallet hold almost $9,000 in cash?

I wish I had 9,000 to carry around. That was stupid on her part. Knowing all the thieves out there and you want to carry that much cash on you. I don't think so. I guess you can chalk it up as a lesson well learned

Where does it say that she

Where does it say that she left the motel room?

Family members in a motel room makes me think of out of town company...

The lady from the room next door freely visiting makes me think...this is a more permanent arrangement, like some of them are residing there.

You know many people who have lost their homes are living in motels.

In any case, so not smart to carry that kind of cash. Never carry more than you can afford to lose.

I'm sorry for her loss and that she had to learn a very hard lesson.
