Ex-deputy files discrimination lawsuit against former sheriff and city

A Richmond County sheriff’s deputy who was fired in 2011 in connection with a falsified hit-and-run report has filed a federal discrimination lawsuit against former Sheriff Ronnie Strength, the sheriff’s office and the city of Augusta.

Jessie Jackson Jr., of Hephzibah, contends in the lawsuit that his firing was retaliation against him for complaints about discrimination and failure to promote black deputies within the department. He also claims that there was a pervasive culture of discrimination within the sheriff’s office and that he was subject to a sustained campaign by sheriff’s administration to force him out of his job.

Jackson, who was a road patrol sergeant at the time, was fired in June 2011 after an internal investigation determined he had completed a hit-and-run report for a friend who said the incident occurred in Augusta. It was later determined the accident actually occurred near Atlanta. The investigation found that the person reporting the accident made an insurance claim and received payment for the damage.

In his lawsuit, Jackson contends he was innocent of any wrongdoing in that incident. He demands to be reinstated at the rank of lieutenant and to be awarded $95,000 in back pay and $2.5 million in damages.

And the giverment mentality continues....

If up to our inept commission he would probably get the money and reinstatement...even if they had to drive to Washington DC.....

What lawyer filed it?

The only way you are going to stop these frivolous lawsuits is by publishing the lawyers name as well!

In your dreams, Jessie!

But go ahead with this nonsense, and may the judge slap you with court costs and the defendants' legal expenses!

More of the American social sucking black hole.

Just an opinion

Lawyers don't care about the suit being frivolous. All they care about is lining their pockets. I'm sure the lawyer was named in the suit but the AC just didn't think it was necessary to name him/her.

Nothing but race card crap!

This lawsuit don't even pass

This lawsuit don't even pass the smell test. If he wins this one it's time to just set the place on fire and move on. Of course, I felt the same way when they gave Roundtree the raise. That didn't pass the smell test either.

I'm afraid to say what I really want to say about this claim. I, too, would like to know which lawyer filed the claim, and why the person waited until now to file.

I wouldn't

doubt the timing of this "lawsuit" has something to do with the recent coronation of His Highness The High Sheriff of County Richmond. Counting on some "brotherly love" on a witness stand should this thing ever go to court.

As for the timing goes you

As for the timing goes you must first file a formal complaint with the EEOC. Then you must wait for them to give you the right to sue. As for the lawyer's name you can go to the clerks office and they can tell you who filed the lawsuit.

It takes over a year and a half for the EEOC to give a person the 'right' to sue?

I thought Jesse Jackson Jr. was recently treated for bipolar disorder and plead guilty of misusing $750k in campaign funds. Boy...does he get around.

I guess Enforcing !!!

I guess he forgot he was a part of Law Enforcement and not congress... I am with some that believe the timing is a bit questionable but also think this person feels he does not need to follow the law. Filling out a police report for a hit and run not anywhere close to your district and you wonder why you were fired????? How does that kickback I am sure you got from your friend feel? Must have run out of money...

Another in a LONG, LONG, LONG
