According to Richmond County sheriff’s Lt. Calvin Chew, Geraldine Mills, 47, an employee at Children’s Unique Christian Day Care, 2440 Windsor Spring Road, faces charges of first-degree child cruelty.

Chew said the suspect “caused excessive physical pain” to a 3-year-old boy by hitting him repeatedly with a plastic object and then shoving him inside a toilet.

According to a police report, video of a young child being physically and orally abused came to police attention after the cellphone’s owner, an employee at the day care, reported the phone stolen.

Another woman, who had the phone after picking it up while shopping with the phone’s owner, turned it over to police after discovering the video.

Police said the phone’s owner is not being charged because police believe she intended to turn the video over to police.
