A cab company says someone is posing as one of its drivers after a Grovetown woman reported a sexual assault early Saturday.

The woman, 24, said she had been at a downtown Augusta bar until almost 3 a.m. when she asked a bar employee to call her a cab. She said a Checker Cab arrived. She told the driver her address, then passed out in the back seat, according to a Columbia County Sheriff’s Office incident report.

The woman said she woke to a loud bang and the driver was standing by her open car door. The driver put his hands under her dress and moved them up her inner thighs. He made a sexually suggestive remark and she shoved him off her, according to the report. The driver got back in the vehicle and took the woman home.

The woman said she called Checker Cab of Augusta to report the incident. The dispatcher told the woman that an impostor is driving around in a Checker Cab vehicle, picking up women and trying to commit sex acts with them, according to the report.

Columbia County sheriff’s Capt. Steve Morris said there have been no other similar reports.

How does the imposter get the call?
Unpublished

Is he monitoring the Checker Cab radio frequency?

Cabs have numbers, don't they? When Checker received the call from the bar employee, did it dispatch a cab and if so, which one? Did it arrive at the bar and did it pick up anyone? It should be relatively easy to get to the bottom of this complete crock........

Sounds like a total

Sounds like a total fabrication by the cab company. She called a cab and a cab came to the bar. How would an imposter in a fake cab know to come?

River, I was thinking the

River, I was thinking the same thing. Only issue with that is that I find it hard to believe that the cab company would put themselves in that sort of position...blatantly lie about something that could potentially be proven as a lie.

JMO, tell the truth and get

JMO, tell the truth and get sued for a lot of money. Lie about it and maybe nothing happens. Plus, this was the dispatcher who apparently said it was an imposter, but law enforcement has had no other complaints, presumably none from the cab company either.

"The dispatcher told the

"The dispatcher told the woman that an impostor is driving around in a Checker Cab vehicle, picking up women and trying to commit sex acts with them, according to the report."

If this is accurate, let's interview the Checker Cab folks to clarify. You mean to tell me someone has a fake Checker Cab?

Right! A fake Checker Cab.

Only noticed after this happened. Come on Checker Cab. Get your story together so the fishy smell will go away.
