The mother of a young Augusta man whose badly decomposed remains were found in her home last fall has been indicted on a charge of murder.

The Richmond County grand jury returned the indictment Tuesday against Angela Suzette Mercer, 43.

Mercer, who was her son’s caretaker, was arrested on a charge of concealing a death after the body of 23-year-old Robin Adams Jr. was found in the family’s James Drive home. Because of the body’s condition, the coroner was unable to pinpoint the exact time of death.

The indictment alleges that Mercer abused and neglected Adams, who was physically and mentally incapacitated, between March 20, 2008, and Sept. 1, 2012, by not providing proper nutrition, food or essential services, which caused his death.

The condition of the body and the difficulty in examining it prolonged the case, according to earlier reports in The Augusta Chronicle.

After an autopsy at the Georgia Bureau of Investigation crime lab in Augusta, the body was sent to the GBI’s Atlanta crime lab and then to the University of Tennessee in Knoxville, where a forensic anthropologist is doing a microscopic examination of the bones.

According to university spokeswoman Whitney Heins, the anthropology department averages about 50 law enforcement and medical examiner consultations per year.

It's a sad day

when a parent mistreats a child, but to do something like this is unconscionable! That poor child was nothing more than a paycheck for this woman...

Maybe the jail should not

Maybe the jail should not provide food, nutrition, or essential services and see how she likes it.

Inordinant affection mentioned in the Bible.....

Unpublished

has more facets than just sexual affection. Natural affection of a mother for her children has been corrupted by ME ism. I want my life to be #1.

This use of ailing and dead relatives for financial gain and support is not new. It is however a growing system of and or entitlement. If the funds are their for one, why not all. Bury them in the back yard. The checks or debit deposits will keep on coming. It is, after all, Magic Obama Money. It is not stealing from the government. How can stealing from a government that legitimatizes collecting other peoples money at the point of a gun, be a crime.

We are just moving it from on dead entitled to a living entitled. It actually saves a lost of government cost. Paper work and all that bureaucratic documentation.

It's a very sad day when you can't depend on your own mother to love, protect, nurture and respectfully tend to your proper burial.

Not A Real Mother

".......who was her sons caretaker..................." I knew before I read this sentence, it has to be about money! Afterwards, that proved it! Ahhhhhhhhh, "the love of money...................." Honestly, I cannot think of a bad enough word(s) to call this woman! What a sad life and death Robin Adams Jr. endured. Just out of curiosity, are there any family members...maybe Robin Adams Sr.?
