19-year-old sentenced to prison in mugging

  • Follow Crime & courts

An Augusta teen who wielded a BB gun during a neighbor’s mugging pleaded guilty Thursday to a reduced charge of robbery.

The reduction means Darius L. Morgan, 19, will be eligible for parole during his 10-year sentence. Morgan, who pleaded guilty in Richmond County Superior Court, will serve 10 years on probation after his release.

Morgan and 15-year-old Naquan D. Cox were indicted on armed robbery charges in the May 24 attack on a young man.

The charge is still pending against Cox. Parole isn’t possible on armed robbery convictions, which carry a mandatory minimum prison sentence of 10 years.

Oh yeh, plead 'em down and give them a break so they can serve a few days and get paroled. Next time they will use a 9MM and leave no witnesses. We should quit calling it a criminal justice system and start calling it the "prosecutor convenience" system.
