A Richmond County jury found a man guilty of child molestation Wednesday.

The jury convicted James Christopher Carter after deliberating for about an hour Wednesday, said Assistant District Attorney Justin Jones who prosecuted the case. Judge Michael N. Annis sentenced Carter to 15 years in prison followed by five years’ probation.

Carter, 37, was indicted in 2011 on a single count of child molestation after an investigation by Richmond County sheriff’s Investigator Cheryl Dorsey, the Burke County Department of Family and Children Services, and the Child Advocacy Center, Jones said.

Carter was convicted of molesting an 11-year-old girl on March 18, 2011. The child testified during the trial this week.
