A judge sentenced an Evans teen to 25 years in prison Monday for aggravated child molestation.

Superior Court Judge J. David Roper sentenced Blake Davis Weems, 18, after he pleaded guilty. The sentence is the mandatory minimum for the charge.

Weems was charged June 12 for numerous sex crimes including aggravated child molestation after a 13-year-old girl said he’d molested her for about a year beginning when she was 12. The girl said Weems forced her to have sex and commit other sex acts with him, according to the Columbia County sheriff’s report.

Roper said Weems could remain on house arrest, as he has been for five months, and turn himself in to the Columbia County Detention Center on Monday.

If he'd had a good lawyer

... he would have gotten in front of Overstreet. He'd have been out in time to buy her a valentine.

Ruined, ruined, ruined lives.

Ruined, ruined, ruined lives. This is so very sad. The young woman will never fully recover, and certainly cant get back that which was taken. The young man gave up the productive part of his life for a deviant behavior. No winners here, not a one.

Such a stupid waste. Even 40

Such a stupid waste. Even 40 years ago when I was that age, there was never a question about "jail bait". NOT SAYING THIS GIRL was "bait".

Just using that euphemism for illustration.

Why was he not taken in immediately?

What if he does this again while waiting? He has nothing to lose now...this is a stupid decision. He should have been locked up as soon as he was sentenced!!
