A 9-year-old boy was taken to a hospital with broken bones after being hit by a car while riding his bicycle in a North Augusta neighborhood Wednesday afternoon.

The accident happened at 4:35 p.m. at the intersection of Thurmond Street and Seymour Drive.

According to police, the boy rode through a stop sign on Thurmond Street and pulled onto Seymour Drive, where he was hit by a 2006 Toyota truck.

“The truck was traveling at a very slow speed,” said Lt. Tim Thornton of North Augusta Public Safety.

The driver will not be charged in the accident.

The boy was taken to Georgia Regents Medical Center, where he was treated for a broken hand and fingers, Thornton said.

He is expected to make a full recovery.

Yes, it can really be a problem...bikers oblivious to the law.

I do think in the case of this little fellow; it was inexperience and lack of proper supervision. So glad he is okay.

Please follow up on this story AC. Let us know that the parents of this poor kid have been charged with negligence for letting this child play in traffic. Let us know that the driver has had his damages rembersed by the parents. The child should have some lawyer sue every bicyclist ever seen playing in the road for setting a bad example. The state needs to step in and put an end to idiots playing on bicycles on the road, every accident or death is proof of how stupid this is. After all monkey see, monkey do.
