Sajid Leslie, 42, was convicted in January 2000 in Richmond County Superior Court of murder and arson in the death of Lori Hastings, a North Augusta mother of four.

Hastings, 30, left home around 10 p.m. April 22, 1999, after receiving a page from Leslie, her 12-year-old son told investigators. She told him she would be back in an hour.

Her body was found an hour later in her burning car near Regency Mall. Expert witnesses testified that the fire was started with gasoline, and that Hastings was killed by soot and smoke inhalation and burns.

The state Supreme Court found no errors occurred during Leslie’s trial. He is serving life in prison plus 20 years.
