Aiken County Coroner Tim Carlton said Berry Playford, 51, of Parkway Drive, was riding a motorcycle on U.S. Highway 1 when he was hit by a Dodge Charger about 6:40 p.m.
Carlton said the driver of the Charger, Edward Roland, of Hephzibah, ran a traffic signal at the Old Aiken Road intersection.
Playford was taken to Georgia Regents Medical Center, where he died of body trauma at 10:10 p.m.
Roland was not injured in the crash.
The South Carolina Highway Patrol is investigating the crash, and no charges have been filed. A toxicology report is pending.
