Richmond County sheriff's deputies search for a suspect after a person tried to rob the GNC store on Bobby Jones Expressway. Deputies used a fire truck to check the roof of the store.

Police searched the shopping center’s roof and attic area with assistance from Augusta Fire Department, but the suspects – who had been thought to be hiding there – were not found.

According to a report from sheriff’s Investigator Cheryl Wright, a GNC store clerk suffered minor injuries but was able to escape to safety.

The only description provided by authorities was that the suspects are a black woman and a Hispanic man.

The commotion caused a stir at Gold’s Gym next door, where a number of people were working out. Gold’s Gym employee Lauren Zolotas said she instructed customers to run to the back of the gym after learning of the robbery attempt.

Machine gun?

It doesn't say that a single round was fired, how do they know it was a machine gun?

Machine gun my patootie. Has somebody at the nutrition store been taking a little too much mushroom extract maybe? Let me guess...the gun was black and looked scary so it must have been a machine gun.

Machine guns are for

Machine guns are for gangsters in the movies. Maybe automatic weapons. Has anyone heard of a case anywhere in the US where automatic weapons/machine guns were used. A rareity and then in the Garden City. Strange. If a machine gun, you would think it would have been picked up by the Nationals. Not the baseball team but the media.
