  • Follow Crime & courts

A 35-year-old Augusta man died early Sunday after being hit while crossing a busy road – just months after he survived being hit by a vehicle.

Robert Wendall Jones, of Augusta, was trying to cross the 2600 block of Barton Chapel Road around 10 p.m. Saturday when he was hit by a 2006 GMC Envoy.

Jones was taken to Georgia Regents Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead at 6:36 a.m.

Police said that Jones was found at fault for darting into traffic. Charges will not be filed against the driver.

Police said Jones had been struck by a vehicle Oct. 5 in the 3200 block of Deans Bridge Road. He was cited for being a pedestrian under the influence.
