South Carolina Law Enforcement Division agents arrested Willie Maurice Franklin, 23, of Stone Drive, on Wednesday on charges of threatening a public official. The misdemeanor offense comes with a penalty upon conviction of up to five years in prison, a $5,000 fine or both.
According to a warrant, Franklin threatened Investigator Kirk Owen on Monday at the Aiken County Detention Center, 435 Wire Road.
Franklin had been arrested by officers Monday morning in connection with a series of burglaries in downtown Aiken last week. From that arrest, he faces charges of trespassing after notice, criminal conspiracy and accessory after the fact.
