Deputies say they spotted a vehicle suspected in a 12:25 a.m. shooting at Checkers in the 3400 block of Wrightsboro Road. The vehicle sped into Aiken County, where it crashed into a tree on Atomic Road at Edmunds Loop.
The driver, identified as Timothy Shane Baughman Jr., was taken to a hospital with minor injuries, then committed to the Richmond County jail on charges of fleeing and attempting to elude, reckless driving, driving while license suspended and an outstanding Superior Court bench warrant. Police found a handgun in the vehicle.
It’s the second Richmond County chase that led to a crash in Aiken County in less than a week.
On Jan. 9, two North Augusta brothers – Derrick Darden, 23, and Deante Darden, 22 – died after crashing into a tree in the 500 block of Carolina Springs Road in North Augusta. A Richmond County deputy had tried to stop the car at Fourth and Reynolds streets.
