John Callahan, 52, was taken into custody Saturday after a six-hour standoff with police. He is charged with discharging a firearm in city limits.

The Aiken Department of Public Safety received a call at 1:16 a.m. about shots fired in the 400 block of Williamsburg Street in Aiken.

Officers found John Callahan, 52, in the front yard. He ran into the home and refused to come out, Cpl. Jeremy Hembree said. About a dozen Aiken County and SLED units responded, he said.

At 7:16 a.m., the special response team entered and took Callahan into custody without incident.

He is being held in the Aiken County Detention Center and is charged with discharging a firearm within the city limits.
