RINGGOLD, Ga. — A north Georgia man who handcuffed himself to a female Taco Bell co-worker has been sentenced to serve four years in prison.

The Rome News-Tribune reports that 25-year-old Jason Earl Dean of Dalton handcuffed himself to the 18-year-old woman in August 2011 in an attempt to convince her to go on a date with him.

Lookout Mountain Assistant District Attorney Alan Norton says a Catoosa County Superior Court judge sentence Dean to four years in prison followed by six years on probation.

Norton says Dean is also not allowed to have any contact with the victim or her family.

She called for help, and several other employees ran outside and talked Dean into letting her go.

“Based on what came out during the hearing, this was a very fair sentence,” Norton told the Chattanooga Times-Free Press. “There was testimony put forth about a previous incident some years ago in Murray County.”

As for an apology from Dean, Norton said, “I don’t think there ever was one.”

Dean and the girl were part of the crew that reopened the Taco Bell off Old Alabama Highway near Interstate 75 in July nine weeks after a massive tornado damaged it and many other structures there in April 2011.

Dean had been trying to go out with the woman for several weeks, and employees had changed her shift so she could avoid him, Ringgold Police Chief Dan Bilbrey said at the time.

of the street. Did he have gun(s)? Now for the "profiling lawsuits". They exhibited anti social behavior, so we arrested them all. Round 'em up, head 'em out. The gulag in Alaska is waiting.

Caning

Too bad we don't allow caning here like they do in Singapore.

This dude presumably has been free on bond for almost two years now. I guess the judge thinks a short stint in prison will help him. Any guesses as to how long he will actually serve before catch & release has him back on the streets.

David Parker - From a Progressive, aka Liberal, stand point...

Liberals (Progressives) are quick to argue it is a women's body, she should be able to do with it as she pleases when it comes to Abortion. Then I guess they would be Hypocrites not to accept Decriminalization of Solicitation.

It is still legal in many Western European Socialist countries and well controlled by their health departments.

The "Ladies" even have retirement plans, disability and medical benefits?☺

An think of the tax revenues Fred Russell and Downtown could collect.☺☺

But what would we have to call the A-RC Board or Authority that over sees the revenue collection? ☺☺☺

You had me up to Freddie. If the revenue goes to his account, I'd unfortunately be opposed but barring that, why not.

Is very deep,
That is why,
You're shackled to this creep".

What ever happened to flowers and candy to get a date?

I'm not advocating

I'm not advocating handcuffing yourself to your next crush, but 4 years is a bit of an overkill for something as silly as this. Considering it will cost taxpayers ~$150,000 to house, feed, and clothe this guy for 4 years in prison, a much more judicious punishment may have been couple months in the pokey and a restraining order.

History, demeanor and

History, demeanor and attitude is everything.
As the article stated, there is more to the situation that came out in the courtroom.

It's easy to imagine a little joking around from a funny guy with a pair of handcuffs, but you have no idea how he treated her, what he threatened her with and what she had previously been through with him trying to get him to take "no" for the answer.

All of us have a sense of whether we are in a playful situation or a dangerous one and we should pay attention to it. If you've never been the object of a sick person's obsession, you might not understand what it feels like to be powerless to defend yourself.

The young man obviously has a history and is emotionally unstable. If he doesn't get some help, we will be reading about him killing someone.
