Both Richmond and Aiken counties recorded their first homicides of 2013 early Tuesday.

In the Augusta case, authorities are asking for the public’s help. According to a statement released by the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded about 2:30 a.m. to a shooting at Club Fiesco, 2925 Peach Orchard Road. There they found 21-year-old Edward Yancey dead from an apparent gunshot wound.

Investigators think the shooting stemmed from an argument inside the club that continued into the parking lot. Yancey was not believed to have been involved; deputies called him an innocent bystander.
“When I seen him he was happy,” a witness identified as Carlysha Golatt told WRDW-TV. “He was jumping up and down in the club and I seen him again and he was laying on the ground,” she said.

Anyone with information is asked to call the sheriff’s office at (706) 821-1080 or during business hours at (706) 821-1020. Callers can remain anonymous.

A second shooting took place Monday night in Aiken County, and the victim was pronounced dead Tuesday morning.

According to a statement released by Aiken County Coroner Tim Carlton, Joseph Brown, 22, of Aiken, was shot several times about 9:30 p.m. in the 400 block of Fairfield Street.

He was taken to Medical College of Georgia Hospital and was pronounced dead about 4 a.m., Carlton said. An autopsy is scheduled today in Newberry, S.C., the coroner said.

Jamar Nicholas White, 28, of Aiken, was arrested Tuesday night and charged with murder and possession of a weapon during commission of a crime, according to an Aiken Department of Public Safety statement.

"..............there are

"..............there are still those that care but a lot of them have retreated from this cold cruel world".

Is that the excuse progressives are making now?

"legal to carry in a public place that serves alcohol as long as 50% of their profit is made from food service.

A public establishment that is considered a bar, is totally different than, Ruby Tuesday, Longhorn Steakhouse, T-Bonz are examples of many more that serve alcohol but their main income is from the sale of food. Unless they have a No Firearms sign posted on their entrance door you are legal to carry...but remember, consumption of alcohol within the establishment makes you illegal.

Most of the comment made above was using a True BAR with peanuts at the bar and then only the owner can decide if you can carry or not. Still at the same time, drinking beer will kill your CWP.

Shooting

no matter who says what - one is dead in Richmond County and one in Aiken County and we only have 364 more days to go (or is this a leap year?)
And I did not know that being Sheriff of Richmond County is a 9 - 5 job and off on weekends. Cool - - -

Open,
Regardless of the conception of the child once it is conceived it is a blessing. No need for a rhetorical speech here. You are right two caring, loving parents are best.
As to the progressive comment...................
I am a life long Republican that is not represented by the party any longer. In a manner of speaking I am a person without a party. I would
say Indepentdent or Libertarian but that doesn't fit the bill either. The parties are bought and paid for and I want what is right for the country.
That includes paying our bills, balancing the budget and not taxing the country into oblivion. But thanks for commenting..........

TCB22 and TrulyWorried.

I noticed that too, TCB22 and Truly Worried. I was hoping to hear a statement that would show some true leadership potential from Sheriff Roundtree about the shooting of the bystander on Peach Orchard Road after this morning's article about the staff changes. Sheriff Roundtree missed a good opportunity today to either comment or direct someone under him to make a statement. The law-abiding citizens of Augusta-Richmond County need to hear something better than that the Sheriff's office is closed and the Sheriff would like to spend New Year's Day with his family (reported by Meredith Anderson WRDW Channel 12) I'm sure the deceased victim would like to have spent his day with his family, too. I suspect the people that voted him into office didn't expect this discouraging response.

When I have discussed CC permits...

...I have always listed the exceptions, which include bars. My specific example of the only local business with such a sign (that I have seen) is Augusta Mall, and damn straight, you can ignore it as big as you please...and I encourage everyone who is legal to do just that. IF they ask you to leave personally, you must, but, unless you are flashing the weapon around they will not.

By the way...just pulled up the Tuesday Noon News 12 report, and sure enough there it was plain as day...News 12 reached out to Sheriff Roundtree for comment, and he said that the office was closed for the holiday and he was spending time with his family. In 30 years of Augusta media work that is the FIRST time I have ever heard that one.

The Sheriff's Office closes

The Sheriff's Office closes for the holidays? Wow their deputies are lucky to have the holiday off. Every other Sheriff's Office stays open 24/7.

Heard that too ...

Thank goodness others heard it too. I was beginning to think I was hearing voices. That really bothers me that the new Sheriff in town is already closing himself off from the public. Funny thing though ... I saw others from the Sheriff department working - must be just the Sheriff that took the day off.

Go to crowded bar with thug

Go to crowded bar with thug wannabes or stay home? Hummm my bet would be on stay home. Choices people it is all about choices. There are too many "boys" with guns today who treat them like toys. I would not step foot in a club these days for nothing.

I have a friend in a local

I have a friend in a local police department who is a Captain and he is on 24/7. If the new sheriff makes comments like that then he is not the sheriff we need. Wise up sheriff Roundtree, you are not your own man anymore and the job of sheriff is much more demanding than that of a school policeman.

Public Safety Aiken County

Why do they have this Public Safety officer Jamr White, above pictured as if he was the Victim or the Accuser?

Jamar White is charged with murder. He is not a public safety officer. See the last sentence in the story.

"Ho-Hum"

Yes, alhans, it has become just another "thing" with certain groups of people(?). They respect no one, they love no one, but, they live off everyone and anyone. They have no connection to hard-working, law obeying, honest people. If they do, that is only because they are in some way a benefit to the "ho-hummer". Sometime, I feel sorry for them for the fact that no one loved them enough to teach them better. But, then I realize we all have a brain, and somewhere in there, where all common sense comes from, they knew better!! Until people learn that having a baby makes you A PARENT, and not some virile, macho man, or a "I am having his baby, he will love me" ignorant female, the "ho-hum" will get worse...................
