An Augusta teenager remained in critical condition at the Medical College of Georgia Hospital on Saturday night after a shooting that wounded him and killed another teen at Dogwood Terrace apartments Friday night.

Dontavius Payne and Trezmaine Jessie Williams, both 18, were shot when they attempted to rob Marcus Gainey, 30, on the 2000 block of Second Avenue around 6:30 p.m. Friday. Payne was taken to the hospital with multiple gunshot wounds and Williams was pronounced dead at the scene, according to investigators.

Richmond County Sheriff’s Lt. Blaise Dresser said Gainey had acted in self-defense and that Payne and Williams had active felony warrants for armed robbery and possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime in an unrelated case.

Williams was the 32nd homicide of 2012.

Homicide

Not a homicide! This 18 year old punk had warrants for previous robberies.
This was the result a person protecting himself against a piece of trash that felt he didnt need to work for what he wanted. If this happened a little more often, maybe it would drop the crime rate a little.

No sympathy here!

All these felons committing

All these felons committing armed robbery with illegally possessed firearms should just take out each other. Right, Techfan?

Payment

So, if this trash makes it out of the hospital and back on his feet, do you think he will be held accountable for the hospital bill? Nah.

MTBer, maybe he will not make

MTBer, maybe he will not make it. Why spend thousands of dollars on him just to put him in jail and then have to take care of him.

I can't bring myself to wish

I can't bring myself to wish death on him, that puts me on their level of no respect for life; but if he expires, it will be a blessing to the taxpayers.

Stepping out of basic logical thinking and in a Liberal persona

I hope he gets better, this has been a life changing event and he will surely turn his life around having had this happen to him.

We should all give him that extra chance, because he was the one that was severely wounded. Plus he has been deeply traumatized by the death of one of his group related friends.

Besides society have failed him leaving him no option but use a gun to make a living.

LIBERAL NUT MODE OFF

Question:
was he arrested before being taken to the hospital? OR will he be arrested if live to be released?

It makes a difference on who is legally required to pay the bill.

The original article said

The original article said "one in custody"; so since the guy who was attacked was said to have shot in self defense, I assumed it was this perp.

Good defense Mr. Gainey. When the police bring someone to the hospital, they are remanded to the hospital. If he has insurance, then it will pay for his treatment. If not, then once again, the hospital will attempt to recover, but will probably eat the charges. If he had already been in prison, then he would go to the prison hospital, which gets State funding. ***Note to criminals : 2013 is a new year. You might want to think about your career choice. Lest you take a dirt nap, like Williams. Good riddance, hopefully to BOTH of them.
