Man selling items reports armed robbery

  • Follow Crime & courts

A man selling items from a roadside booth was robbed of $200 at gunpoint by a man who fired a shot at him, according to a police report.

About 2:15 p.m. Monday, Donald Evans, of Augusta, told police he was selling items from a booth at the corner of Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard and 15th Street when a stranger inquired about getting Nike shoes and a purse.

The robber, wearing jeans and a dark jacket, then pointed a semiautomatic handgun at Evans and demanded money.

Evans said he laid $200 on the table and fled toward his Chevrolet Suburban, according to the report from Richmond County Sheriff’s Office.

As he was running to the vehicle, he said, the robber shot a hole in it and ran to a green car parked on Olive Road.

"Items"? Same guy sells Nikes and purses on a streetcorner? Can you say, "Trademark infringement" and "counterfeit goods"?

that you can have before it is considered commerce. Just imagine if your next door neighbor had a yard sale every weekend and his yard looked like a flea market.

One of those "victimless crimes" the police choice to not enforce.

They can rack up more arrests for the same effort at the Barn Yard.

Big Brother types

Love the comments indicating robbing and shooting at a roadside vendor is O.K. if business was not first robbed by City.
I also take it the vendor was not armed and even giving up cash was still put at risk.
Remember when seconds count, police are only minutes away!

Merry Christmas.

"Laws that forbid the carrying of arms. . . disarm only those who are neither inclined nor determined to commit crimes. . . Such laws make things worse for the assaulted and better for the assailants; they serve rather to encourage than to prevent homicides, for an unarmed man may be attacked with greater confidence than an armed man." - Thomas Jefferson

Robbed on 15th and Martin Luther King Blvd.

The place this man shoes is on the corner of a closed down car wash. It is amazing how he could have been robbed with all the people that were across the street at the gas station. The gas station across the street is a hang out for a lot people. Which are close knit.
