Another Augusta Youth Development Campus employee has been fired as the Department of Juvenile Justice continues a staff shake-up at the facility.

The facility’s school principal, Dr. Brenda James-Ford, was fired for withholding information about a pending ethics investigation in which she is named, DJJ Commissioner Avery D. Niles said in a news release Thursday.

James-Ford, who was hired by the YDC in July, did not report a letter of reprimand she received from another school district involving allegations of grade-changing, which resulted in an ethics investigation by the Professional Standards Commission, Niles’ statement said. The investigation is still pending.

Department spokesman Jim Shuler said that James-Ford’s teaching certificate was checked at the time of her interview and when she was hired but that no issues surfaced. During a review in November, DJJ’s Central Office discovered that an ethics investigation was opened in May, before James-Ford applied at DJJ.

There has been no evidence of grade-changing at Augusta YDC, Shuler said.

DJJ’s regional principal, Jerry Jones, has been reassigned to the Augusta YDC while the department searches for a replacement, whom they expect to hire by the end of the month.

On Wednesday, the agency announced the firing of YDC Lt. Ricky Smiley for actions related to a Dec. 2 assault between youths at the facility and the suspension of Interim Director Melvin Womble because of a pending investigation. The details of the investigation involving Womble were not released.

“The commissioner promises that DJJ will fast-track similar dismissals and use corrective measures wherever needed,” Shuler said at the Augusta facility Thursday. “The commissioner acknowledges that there has been a recent history of personnel changes at Augusta YDC, and he says they will continue until we get it right.”

What is going on?

Is no one checking resume histories?

Every few months it is something new either the staff or the inmates.

BTW:
I deleted a very long 5 min. rant.

We have all said it before one occasion of another.
An there has been a lot of those in the last 2 years.

I agree Open Curtain

Aren't there any competent people that do this kind of work that can be brought in to take charge of this ongoing problem ?

Budget Crisis!

I'm sure the DJJ budget crisis is not helping. Maybe positions are being stacked with people who are willing to work for peanuts and thus, not the most qualified to handle the job. Just a thought!

A cesspool for lost children....

Social engineering is working in ARC. Look who is attracted to this program of protecting and potentially rehabilitating these young people. Criminals themselves, No ethics. No pride or self respect.

Qualified

It is going to be the same OpenCurtain until it changes to actually be a good system. It happened at the AYDC now its big news? Really? This goes on every where all the time. Schools, streets and in homes.
@ avidreader what is exact positions for peanuts are you refering to and what determines the amount you make for that position. What a CEO of a company that Daddy or Mommy handed down and you pay yourself 1.5 million a year? A person with a Doctrate in a subject? Which I can tell you there are people with doctrates trying to control so called youths and have none of there own and in fact hate anyone under the age of 30. What I am trying to say is, this is the problem in the first place, the illusion of just that and in our country that is want no work! By the way all persons at that facilty that guard or contact the clients go through the same training law enforcment attends.
Now we have Senator this and judge that which are setting limits on a system which they neglected for so long until it is out of control. I say let either of them or any of them including the ones typing/reading this, take your rump out there for one week as is and lets see the tune you are singing then.
So judge this or senator that, if it has indeed aroused the attention of the governer then the criteria needs changing.
First and the ending to the problem is to get in there and get these so called youths under control, not just here but every where! Funny example: I had three kids graduate from Davidson and it is so weird how they (Davidson) have had 4 fights since their opening and you get sent home for sneezing out of the wrong nostral. In a nut shell that is because of the tolerance and how much rope is given before hanging yourself, plain and simple. Blame staff all you want but the rule makers need to get a grip on the system and CHANGE IT! You are only allowed to get away with what you are let to get away with and believe me these so called youths know it, then this is where the problems begin and rise. It is 2012 leading into 2013 and we have cuddled ourselves into a hole with expert "OPINIONS" and "DESK WHIP SNAPPERS in which neither are/have fixed a darn thing.

If there is a budget problem

with the DJJ budget.

Cut out Cable TV, and some frills.
Drop the HVAC temps to federal standards.
Have the inmates wash their own cloths.
Have the inmates parents supply their personal hygiene materials.
Transfer the Aid $$$ that many parents get for the brat, to the DJJ budget.

Start charging a Per-Diem to the parents for every day their brats in jail.

There is a solution to every $$$ problem..

Heck Yeah OC

You hit the nail on one of the heads my friend! Should have thought about those frills before becoming an inmate. I for one DO NOT feel sorry for the wrong doers. It is amazing how everyone else can do right and there are those that cannot. Yes of course you have the few that are brain deprived, but the rest knew better. Busting a cap in your so called friend because he mean mugged you is what?
I am so tough on this matter because I have held a half of a kids head in my hand from a gun shot, comforted a little 3 year old after being attacked by a youth and had to find parts of someones body that was spread all over because of a youth. Every one of those cases the youth did all the complaining about his/her rights and lived it up better than on the streets/ at home. THen the parents scream "MY BABY!"
Dang kids have more cable channels than I have and three squares a day. I have money and don't get three squares a day.

they are allowed to get

they are allowed to get something for doing nothing just like the welfare system alot of them come from. free food, free money, free housing, free cell phones. thats all they know. why change now. alot of staff at aydc are over worked. I can remember 16-20 hour days. try marching 20 kids from the school building in the dark with only one other staff member. these so called kids are larger than alot of us were. the staff is doing the best they can although there was a handful that did as little as possible. all of the staff are not bad as with most of the kids. a handful of both can cause alot of grief. before anyone complains, try doing the job yourself. you will see the real deal
