A Suburban driver who traveled west for three miles in the eastbound lanes of River Watch Parkway – causing wrecks with three other cars and sending six people to the hospital – is refusing to cooperate with authorities.

Investigators sort through the wreckage of a four-vehicle accident in the eastbound lanes of River Watch Parkway on Monday morning.

Monique Sullivan, 35, was in fair condition Tuesday night at the Medical College of Georgia Hospital, but was refusing to work with police, Richmond County sheriff’s Capt. Scott Gay said.

The investigation into Monday’s wreck will continue with toxicology tests and work at the crash site, he said.

Amelia Hiltz, 32, was in the same lane as Sullivan and tried to veer right before being hit by Sullivan’s 2003 Chevrolet Suburban. The Suburban then hit a car driven by Kevin Mollenhauer, 25, who was in the other lane. Mollenhauer’s car slammed into Hiltz’s, causing most of the damage, said Richmond County sheriff’s Lt. Randy Prickett.

Sullivan’s SUV flipped and hit another car driven by Augusta lawyer Maureen Floyd, 52.

Hiltz, 32, was still in critical condition Tuesday evening, Floyd was serious and Sullivan’s husband was fair, a hospital spokeswoman said.

This is beginning to look like attempted homicide by SUV

I especially like OnlyNAugusta's suggestion.

Refusing to cooperate simple isn't an option after something like what she did. It's getting harder to avoid the temptation to surmise, especially now, that she didn't do this with some level of intent.

Some people think the rules don't apply to them,

and for this, others suffer. I will continue to pray for the families
of the victims.

Jack Bauer Moment

"onlynaugusta" your comment sounds like one that Jack Bauer would make in 24. It doesn't surprise me that this woman doesn't want to answer questions. She wants to have a lawyer first and not say anything that will make things worse on her. But with 5 people who lives were in danger this is not going to fly. One can only imagine 1 or 2 things happened. Either she is totally unable to drive a vehicle or 2 she was under the influence and if so then time in jail to think about it or come clean about it.

IMO, I find it best until all

IMO, I find it best until all the facts are known, not to make judgements on the degree of one's guilt (can't say guilt or innocent because she did cause the accident). I wonder why they have not spoken to the husband to find out what transpired before his wife detoured down the wrong side of the road for 3 miles. Was he asleep? Did he try and prevent it? Surely if he was awake, he would have been aware that they were going in the wrong direction.

She is right

"Cooperate" would mean incriminating herself. Any strip mall lawyer would tell her to clam up and reserve her defense for court. I hate what she did, but there is no reason for her to speak to the cops at this time. Not like there is a suspect on the loose...

Anger, argument, alcohol,

Anger, argument, alcohol, depression, drugs, stupidity.....doesn't matter. She needs to be locked up and to never drive again.

The only possible defense for this one is the old "stuck throttle" defense and my answer to that one is "that's why they put the big N for Neutral on the gear shift.....if turning off the ignition switch don't work (hint-for those of you with keyless ignition just push the button and hold for 5 seconds)".

It's not hard to see how a driver can miss a "do not enter"/one-way street if he isn't paying attention, but she had to see the cars coming at her and apparently made no attempt to get off the road...just barrelled right into them.
Puzzling to say the least.

Silence

Letting a lawyer do the talking for you is the correct thing to do in cases such as these.

Never talk to the police

James Madison said that one should never talk to the police. He was correct. It is the worst thing she could do in a case like this. The investigation will play out. Statements by supects actually can hinder investigations because the police figure the case is over so why bother. Good police work will yield positive results.

So much unknown except driving the wrong way on Riverwatch.

Well thanks for identifying yourself, IAD1

It's nice that someone has the appropriate equipment for owning up to voting down. I just thought it was interesting that among all the really negative comments about the non-cooperation, my rather moderate speculation was the only one at that point that had attracted ire.

The 5th amendment

The 5th amendment specifically states that she doesn't have to talk to the police. In fact, even innocent people should never talk to the police.

CG, I've just learned a long

CG, I've just learned a long time ago that sometimes things are not always what they seem. I guess it's hard for me to imagine why a 35 year old woman would purposely drive 3 miles, flying as some stated, down a road the opposite direction, putting herself and her child in harms way, unless there was some extinuating circumstances. Was this out of fear, something medical that caused confusion, etc. and why did the husband allow her to drive 3 miles without pulling over to the side of the road? It appears that there is more to this story and when the truth comes out if she intentionally caused this accident with sound of mind, then I'll be the first to say, lock her up for a long time. Until then, I'll wait for the rest of the story.
