Augusta man identified as shooting victim

  • Follow Crime & courts

An Augusta man has been identified as the victim in Saturday night’s fatal shooting.

De’John Grant, 20, was pronounced dead at 8:03 p.m. Saturday from at least one gunshot wound, Deputy Coroner Kenneth Boose said.

The shooting occurred on Dublin Drive off Barton Chapel Road about 7:30 p.m. The Richmond County Sheriff’s Office was not releasing any information Sunday.

Jeffrey Adams, 29, of Augusta, was injured in the shooting and was being treated Sunday at Medical College of Georgia Hospital, said Sgt. Bill Leisey. His condition was not available.

An autopsy on Grant is scheduled at the Georgia Bureau of Investigation Crime Lab in Atlanta on Monday, Boose said in an e-mail.

So why did I dig both of these criminal records up?
Think about, how many times a single choice or decision, made by either person, would have resulted in a totally different outcome.

You are the Paul Harvey of the AC. A compliment (-: None of this day after day jungle behavior is random. There are no more cherries.

Most likely juvenile arrests as well hidden because of age.

Audacity

This is an open letter to "Open Curtain"...

Sir/Madame,

I find that your biased discerning perspective for past decisions, as you call them, and a case whose details have yet to be released to a concerned public, grossly morbid. This speaks to parallel drawn by many in a position to judge others rather than wait for the details to be disclosed. A child was murdered and another seriously wounded.
Please spare us your unqualified profiling or opinion of any on-going criminal investigation and your highly misinformed psychoanalysis of arrest records.

Correct me if I am wrong, but I never assumed possession and DUI warranted death.

I may be jumping to a conclusion
but this seems very personal to you, and I extend my apologies
to you for upsetting you. Even though that was never the intention of the comment.

The point of my comment was about choices having results.

We now can all see the results of the choices made leading up to that night.

I actually sincerely appreciated your comment and have voted in favor of it.

BUT

1st of all, NO child was murdered.

A 20 year MAN with a documented criminal history of felony level interference with Law Enforcement and drug possession and some things not listed, was shot to death, in a neighborhood that has become well known for drugs and serious crime problems. As of a few minutes ago the area had a current total of 401 criminal police reports listed in the AC crime database since just
Jan, 01,2012.

A 29 year old MAN with only a DUI (Alcohol) record listed, was wounded.

As I stated in my comment
each Man made a decision that placed them at the scene of the shooting. A choice of location, which resulted in a murder and a aggravated Assault with the intend to commit murder. As more facts are released officially, it will become self explanatory as to who, what, when, where, and why the shooting occurred.

As I said
If they had made just 1 choice, or decision differently, 1 would be alive and the other not wounded.

------
"... never assumed possession and DUI warranted death."
Neither have I.
But alas, both activities, all to many times, result in the death or the serious injury of those involved with them, or chose to be in the close proximity of them.

Hence the Choice I spoke of.

---------

As far as Unqualified Profiling, many would beg to differ given my retired career background.

Open Curtain...

I disagree with your "decisions" thesis, we are all at the mercy of universal coincidences. Personal choices aside, we do not operate in a vacuum where only the decisions we make dictate the outcome.

"We now can all see the results of the choices made leading up to that night."

12 people made a decision to watch a movie one fateful night in Colorado and were massacred. Would you feel differently if these victims had criminal records?

"1st of all, NO child was murdered."

I use child loosely as he was not of legal drinking age but your emphasis on "A 20 year MAN with a documented criminal history" implies having a criminal record absolves one's youth.

"each Man made a decision that placed them at the scene of the shooting."

32 students made the decision to further their educations at Virginia Tech but were gunned down. Should we investigate their criminal backgrounds?

You appear to be an intelligent individual, and exhibit reasonable sensibilities so debating criminal backgrounds and locations only allow us explore the surface issue of indiscriminate violence.

Assuming your background isn't in social sciences, given your response, I think your argument would better suit a platform of shared ideologies of blaming the victims rather than subjective rhetoric with a stranger.
