A young Augusta man who returned to a fist-fight with a gun pleaded guilty to murder Monday.

Ervin C. Jackson, 24, was sentenced in Richmond County Superior Court to life in prison for malice murder, District Attorney Ashley Wright said.

Jackson shot 19-year-old Webster Thacker to death on Dec. 14, 2011, in the 2500 block of Drayton Drive. According to earlier reports in The Augusta Chronicle, Jackson and Thacker argued and then fought over a game. A witness told sheriff investigators that Jackson left the area but returned with a gun. Thacker suffered one gunshot to his chest and three to his back.

Jackson decided to plead guilty Monday, the day his trial was set to begin.

Thacker graduated from Glenn Hills High School in 2010. He played on the football team for four years as a linebacker and fullback. After his death, a Stop the Violence rally was held at the school.

Should Have Left Well Enough Alone...

Should've accepted the whippin' you received. Pretty stupid. Even though you were old enough to have a gun, I'd bet dollars to doughnuts, that it was not registered. Hopefully, you will be put to work somewhere, and at least pay something back to Society. Sweat and blood, doing something.

Plea bargain....

Guilty plea in return for no death sentence.

Sounds like an execution. Shot him once in the chest then gave him three more in the back just to make certain when he fell to the ground.

Should of held the Stop the BAD rally sooner

Why is it something Bad has to happen before Good things are put in place.

Sometimes it is like Good stands of the sidelines waiting to do Good, while Bad is out there just being Bad.

Maybe parents have forgotten how to show GOOD and Teach Good, when Bad is so easily self learned.

40 years at apprx $35k cost per year to the taxpayers

This is what it is going to cost taxpayers for this scumbag going to jail for the next 40 years. I think that is a total of $1.4 million dollars..... assuming he lives to 64. I have a solution but it would be best if I did not state it on here.
