The death of a Harlem businessman remained under investigation Monday.

Ron Willoughby, 59, the owner of The Ron Mart in Harlem, was killed by a gunshot wound to the chest according to McDuffie County Deputy Coroner Sammy Purvis.

Purvis said he will not make a ruling on homicide or suicide until toxicology and histology reports are back, which could be a few days.

The death is also being investigated by the Thomson Police Department and the Georgia Bureau of Investigation.

Emergency medical personnel and police were called to Willoughby’s home in the 400 block of Lovelace Drive in Thomson about 9:40 a.m. Sunday and found Willoughby dead.

Harlem will miss him

Harlem will truly miss Mr. Willoughby. He ran a family owned business in our community. Sometimes a trip to RonMart could save you a trip to "town". Saddened to hear of his passing.
