Man sought in Aiken shooting

John Drayton Jr.

Aiken County deputies are searching for a man accused of shooting at a woman Wednesday morning.

Aiken County sheriff’s Capt. Troy Elwell said police were called to Nautilus Street about 9:15 a.m. after shots were fired.

Elwell said John Drayton Jr. was arguing with a woman when he put a pistol to her head. The woman escaped but Drayton fired a shot at her.

Drayton was last seen running into the woods. He was wearing blue jeans, a white tank top and flip flops. He is described as a black male around 5 feet, 9 inches tall.

Elwell said Drayton faces charges of attempted murder, possession of a weapon during the commission of a violent crime and possibly kidnapping. Drayton also has warrants for criminal domestic violence and three outstanding bench warrants for traffic violations.
