Police are releasing few details in the early morning stabbing death of a 52-year-old man.

“We’re still investigating at this point,” said Richmond County sheriff’s Lt. Blaise Dresser.

Around 1:15 a.m. Thursday, investigators were called to a home in the 1400 block of Dewitt Street, where they discovered Samuel Hackett with a stab wound to the torso. Hackett was taken to Medical College of Georgia Hospital, where he died shortly before 2 a.m.

Dresser said Hackett had received a ride from downtown to his Dewitt Street home.

The driver of the dark Chrysler PT Cruiser was described as a 25- to 30-year-old man, around 5-foot-7 to 5-foot-9, with an athletic build and a short haircut.

No motive has been released.

This is Richmond County’s 25th homicide this year.

Details still coming in Last updated 7:00 AM

The who, what , when and where answered.

The WHY is still missing.

Given the area borders some tough areas, in the 2 years no shootings, murders listed, mostly just simple assaults, a few Coke busts, 3 or 4 reported burglaries and a robbery.

This level of crime is not the norm, despite Cherry Tree being 1/4 mile over.
