Aiken Public Safety officers are searching for a gunman and a man who was wounded during a shooting at Knights Inn on Tuesday.

Police were called to the Richland Avenue motel at 10:10 p.m. for a report of shots fired.

Investigators are trying to determine what happened because everyone involved in the incident fled the scene.

Capt. David Turno said one of their concerns is the blood found at the scene.

“We don’t know if someone was shot and trying to treat their injuries at home or has died,” he said.

No one has shown up at local hospitals with injuries consistent with the crime.

A witness told officers there was a fight in the stairwell between several men before a shot was fired.

Turno said it appears to be the result of an attempted robbery.

Police are searching for a gray Mitsubishi convertible with a black top that left the scene after the shooting.
