Augusta man jailed for biting off father-in-law's ear

An Aiken man had to have his earlobe reattached Saturday night after it was bitten off by his son-in-law in Augusta, according to police.

Deputies were called to a home in the 2300 block of Boykin Road about 10 p.m. Saturday. They found Frederick Harrison, 52, and Jonathan Collins, 29, in the middle of a fight, with a portion of Harrison’s ear lying on his chest.

Richmond County sheriff’s Sgt. Dan Carrier said the incident began when Harrison’s 30-year-old daughter and her husband, Collins, began arguing because the woman made a sandwich for another man at a party.

Police said a child at the home notified Harrison, who then went to the home.

According to an incident report, Harrison told deputies he was arguing with Collins when Collins punched him in the face and then bit off a portion of his ear.

Harrison was taken to Medical College of Georgia Hospital, where his earlobe was reattached.

Collins was booked into the Richmond County jail on charges of aggravated battery.
