1 arrested, 1 injured after man pinned between tree, car

One man is in custody and another in the hospital after an incident Saturday that left a man injured after he was pinned between a car and a tree.

According to Richmond County sheriff’s Lt. Robbie Silas, several men jumped on a man’s car about 4:45 p.m. as he was trying to leave Dogwood Terrace in the 2100 block of 15th Avenue.

As the driver began driving away, one man hung on to the driver’s side door by the steering wheel. The driver hit a small, white car in the 1900 block of Second Avenue. The man continued to hold on until the driver slammed into a tree a few hundred yards away.

The driver sped off, hitting another truck on his way down Second Avenue, and swiping a third vehicle on Nellieville Road.

The driver continued to the Budget Inn on Gordon Highway, where he called police and was taken into custody, Silas said. Deputies said the case was being treated as an aggravated assault. Neither man’s name was available.

The injured man was taken to Medical College of Georgia Hospital, where he was put into surgery, Silas said.
