Officers suspended after traffic stop with judge

  • Follow Crime & courts

MACON, Ga. — The Bibb County sheriff said Thursday that two of his officers will be suspended without pay for their actions at a traffic checkpoint where a local judge was stopped.

Officials say officers stopped Bibb County Judge Howard Simms on Sept. 22 for a license check during an operation they called “Rolling Thunder.” Sheriff’s reports state the judge was allowed to drive home although a roadside breath test showed his alcohol level was above the legal limit.

Sheriff Jerry Modena says a captain will be suspended for five days and a sergeant will be suspended for three days.

Simms, a Superior Court judge and former district attorney, said in a statement last month that he was entering an in-patient alcohol addiction treatment facility. The judge has not been charged with DUI.

The officers MUST be fired!

The officers MUST be fired! They've demonstrated a complete lack of respect for the RULE OF LAW! It also clearly demonstrates that selective application of US laws are in effect, and have been in effect, for hundreds of years that harm minorities. Secretly, the laws are working exactly like this case unfolded - let them get away if no minority is involved. Corruption is the key word and the entire legal community and law enforcement community in that state is responsible. Some people in that chain should to be fired starting with the officers.
