A former car dealership employee has been arrested, police say, after being caught on video stealing from the dealership.

According to a news release, investigators were called to Kia of Augusta, 1770 Gordon Highway, for the theft of vehicle batteries.

After reviewing surveillance video, investigators saw a man drive a red, convertible Mercedes Benz onto the lot around 2:45 p.m. Sept. 23, break into seven automobiles and remove the batteries.

The suspect was identified as Mark Andrew Lewis, a former employee of the business. Lewis, of the 1800 block of Tubman Home Road, was booked into the Richmond County jail on five counts of entering an automobile to commit a theft.

Investigator Kendall Brown said the video cannot be released because of the ongoing investigation.
