A 19-year-old Dearing man told deputies he was assaulted after he made an obscene gesture at another driver Thursday afternoon.

Robert Britta told deputies the vehicle he was riding in was almost involved in a crash on Gordon Highway when a black Pontiac G6 with an Ohio license plate pulled out of Parham Road in front of the vehicle.

According to an incident report, the driver of the Pontiac pulled off to the shoulder of the road to allow the vehicle to pass. Witnesses said they believe the driver pulled off after realizing he had almost caused an accident.

Britta told deputies he made the hand gesture at the driver, who was described as an Asian male, as he passed.

When both vehicles stopped at the red light at Gordon Highway and Robinson Avenue, the driver of the Pontiac came to the rear passenger door where Britta was sitting and punched him several times in the face, resulting in a bloody nose.

The attacker fled the scene.

Sad World

"Ugly gestures" - "irate drivers" - the whole world is slowly heating up and coming to blows before it is all over with. Wonder where it will end?

I hope Robert took a picture of his tag

so the police can go arrest the thug for assault. If he'd come up to my car and started doing that, I might have shot him, or at least planted something hard and possibly sharp into whatever part of him I could reach.

Lucky

Sorry this is out of bounds for both, but the guy that started it is lucky he got off with bloody nose.

In some towns a lot worse would have happened before the next stoplight.

so the guy that pulled out actually pulled out of the way after he realized he almost caused an accident and the other guy still felt the need to flip him off??? most people would have just been relieved to have not been in an accident....must have been the teenager in him...and i agree, he is lucky that all he got was a bloody nose.....

I agree with the person who said he is lucky a bloody nose is all he got. There are folks who will shoot you for pretty much nothing nowadays, you never know when someone might be on the edge.

A jerk like this WILL try this again and hopefully will get what he deserves! Kind of odd not one single witness got a tag or could follow. Pathetic.

While punching someone in the

While punching someone in the nose is against the law so is flipping off another driver while in traffic. Bet you didn't know that. Yep, it is considered a form of Road Rage and if the situation turns ugly like this and the victim admits to flipping off another driver then guess who gets a citation and a bloody nose? Yep the flipperoffer! He should have kept the offending finger up his nose and stayed at home in "Dearing." He, obviously, is not ready for the big town of Augusta and what it has to offer little town mentality.

Get you [filtered word] shot

around here doing this nonsense!
Up north it's normal for people to casually throw around *the finger* so i've been told. It doesn't happen a lot around here for this very reason!
I've cursed and had the dirty looks when someone ticks me off driving, but would never dream doing it to the person.. I love life a tad too much :-)

Rudeness

Reminds me of the line from "Lonesome Dove" uttered by Woodrow Call. "I hate rudeness in a man, I won't tolerate it". People need to remember the old axiom "For every action there is an equal and opposite reaction". Patience when dealing with your fellow man, especially when a mistake causes a near accident, needs a resurgence.

Somehow,

Flipping off someone who has done something stupid and dangerous simply doesn't fall into the same category as pounding someone bloody.

If you want to assign a first cause, it belongs with the idiot from Ohio who either doesn't have good judgment for driving or who thinks he's a bad-a with his G6. He almost caused an accident--he should have sucked it up when the near-victims expressed their anger at him. He deserved it.

Always wondered

... having been flipped off by a woman; was that a put-down or invitation?
