MONROE, Ga. -- Authorities launched a homicide investigation Tuesday after a man’s body was found in trash at a Walton County solid waste plant.

Public works employees for the city of Monroe, between Athens and Atlanta, found the body about 9:20 a.m. in a refuse trailer at the plant on Cherry Hill Road and notified police.

“The scene was secured by city of Monroe detectives then processed by the Georgia Bureau of Investigation and city (of) Monroe crime scene technicians,” the news release said. “This death is being investigated as a homicide.”

The body had not been identified and authorities are not releasing more information until after an autopsy is performed at the Georgia Bureau of Investigation’s State Crime Lab.

The solid waste plant receives trash from several surrounding communities, according to police.
