The death of a hunter whose body was found Sunday morning in Wilkes County has been ruled a homicide, Sheriff Mark Moore said.

Moore refused to release any other information on the death of 35-year-old Jeffrey Sean Gebhardt, whose body was found by the Georgia State Patrol helicopter after he called the sheriff’s office Saturday night saying he was lost.

Gebhardt was found in an area of marsh and grass that is normally underwater but was exposed because of the low lake level. The Blairsville, Ga., deer hunter’s death is under investigation by the sheriff’s office and the Georgia Bureau of Investigation.

Sweet son, His family was not

Sweet son,
His family was not even with him on this hunting trip. It looks to me as if the land was a private hunt club. Why don't you double check the story before you make public comments.

Murdered Hunter

What I know so far is, Mr.Gebhardt and a friend were camping at Holliday Campground(as were my husband, my brother, a friend, my husband's brother and nephew, plus other campers/hunters), for the three day hunt on the WMA(Wildlife Management Area). Friday night Mr.Gebhardt came out of the woods into the park. He had parked somewhere else and needed to go and get his truck, so, my brother-in-law took him to his truck. That was the last time any of the group saw him. The next day, Saturday was when he was murdered, don't know if it was the morning or evening hunt. Heard something more, but will not repeat it, might not be true........
