ATLANTA — Atlanta police say a woman and child were found dead inside a home after the woman’s new husband ended a standoff by surrendering to police.

Joseph Rennato Smith, 32. was arrested after negotiations at his family’s home. Police said his wife of about a month, Shatikey Griffin, 34, and her 12-year-old daughter were found dead in the home. The Atlanta Journal-Constitution said the victims were identified by Griffin’s father, Thaddeus Griffin.

Police in East Point said they are investigating whether Smith is connected to the death of 36-year-old Loveitt Wallace. Her body was found in a room at the Wellesley Inn on Sunday morning.

Thaddeus Griffin said Smith did not show up for a family gathering Saturday night and they didn’t know where he was until the standoff.

What a man. And I lose that

What a man. And I lose that word loosely. If convicted, I hope that he is sentenced to death, and that the death sentence is carried out swiftly. It's a shame that even if he's sentenced to death, he'll die peacefully.
