Authorities say they are awaiting the results of a blood-alcohol test before charging a man involved in a Wednesday wreck that killed a Martinez woman.

Columbia County Sheriff’s Capt. Steve Morris said it could take up to six weeks to get test results for Lucky Wade Jackson Jr., 43, of Buxton Drive in Evans. Alcohol was a contributing factor in the wreck, according to the sheriff’s office accident report.

Police say Jackson drove through a red light on Washington Road at Ronald Reagan Drive just before midnight, striking the car of Jordan Elizabeth White, 19. She died Thursday from her injuries.

White, a 2011 Evans High School graduate, was studying at Augusta State University while working at Firehouse Subs, according to her Facebook page.

White was making a left turn off of Ronald Reagan Drive on a green arrow about 11:45 p.m. when Jackson, driving a Ford F-250 truck, ran the red light heading west and hit the driver’s side door of White’s Honda Accord, according to the report. The Honda spun and landed on the shoulder more than 400 feet from the intersection near Regions Bank.

There were no skid marks from Jackson’s truck, indicating he did not brake before the collision, according to the report.

Jackson’s truck then crossed the center line and hit a stopped tractor-trailer, according to the report.

One of White’s passengers, Corey Jalen Davis, 19, of Cyndee Circle in Martinez, is in good condition, according to a Medical College of Georgia Hospital spokeswoman. She had no listing for the other passenger, Clinton McArthur Gayman, 22, of Belglade Road in Grovetown, who also was taken to the hospital.

The tractor-trailer driver, Shellie Curtis Patterson, of Lincolnton, Ga., was not injured.

Jackson suffered minor injuries and was treated and released from Medical College of Georgia Hospital.

Toxicology does not matter. The sweet child is still dead.

What if the driver fell asleep at the wheel, or just did not see the light was red? The sweet girl is still dead, and that great family is still devastated. I would assume the driver is also devastated that he killed somebody. I believe it is vehicular homicide, no matter what. Let's just pray for the White family and all those who are impacted by this horrible tragedy.

I have reports...

...that the preliminary tests show almost 3 times legal intoxication on behalf of the accused in the case. This is not the "legal" test that is required by the state, done by the crime lab, which will require the six weeks.

I have spoken today with RC Chief Deputy Sid Hatfield and CC Sheriff Clay Whittle on the topic this morning. In the past. I covered the same ground with several different coroners, going back to Leroy Sims and Tommy King (may they RIP) on the topic.

Augustans can fix this!

Hold on

Let's not do a Democratic knee jerk, here. The crash resulted in a tragic loss of life. The causee of the crash is known, and blood samples were collected by the book. In the long run, it does not matter whether the lab gets the alcohol results back in 6 days, six weeks, or six months. Justice will be done.

My condolences go out to the White family.

In a court of law he is

In a court of law he is Innocent until proven guilty of DUI.. He is due his day in court just like the rest of us. When the family sues in a court of law and if he has not been proven guilty of his DUI he’s just negligent instead of gross negligence once he has been convicted of DUI which jury’s award more toward the victim’s family if he’s convicted of DUI prior to the lawsuit going to trail and any good attorney will drag that DUI court date out as long as possible in hopes the suit will settle prior to the convention. Not saying it's right, but just the way it is. I've seen it done before.

Question for Austin

Austin, you stated that "Augustans can fix this." I am confused on what you are referring to? Are you speaking of shortening the time it takes for blood test results to come back? If so, tell me what I can do as an Augustan to shorten the time required. I am all for it! Thanks!

Lost Of An Unnecessary Death

of son or daughter is without words the worst disaster that a family has to live with.

No matter what will happen now will never be accepted as "Justice".

To the Whites', May the good Lord give you the strength to deal with the hate that will replace Love in your lives.

I Know.

Doesn't really matter

how much money the truck driver has or loses. What he needs to lose, if proven drunk driving as the cause, is his license to drive. No chance of him doing this again.
Prayers to the family and friends of the victim.

Revoke Their License

I have absolutely no tolerance for people who think they can indulge in alcohol and get behind the wheel of a 5000-pound projectile and think that everything is going to be okay. What a selfish jerk one must be to even let the thought enter one's mind to drink and drive - I don't even care if it is just one glass of wine. DON'T DRIVE!!!

I have had drunken drivers crash into my car and one of them was so wasted she had no idea what she had done until the police put her in the patrol car. And guess what happened to her. Nothing! A slap on the wrist. Community service and a fine. No jail time. And my car wasn't the only one she hit in her alcohol-fueled binge on the highway.

But God forbid if she had been found with weed - she would probably have done prison time.

Drunk drivers should have their licenses revoked the first time they are convicted of a DUI. No more driving - period. Then maybe these nutcases will get the message.

Joe Neal

Attorney Joe Neal's adventure was largely weed-fueled, and he just got a slap on the wrist. It all depends on who you know.

Runing of red lights in Columbia County

Yesterday I sat at four red lights. At three lights.... people ran the red light a long time after it had turned red. This was mid-afternoon. Chances are they were not drunk.... but all three sets of drivers could have killed someone as well. My condolences to the White family.

The scary part is he is still

The scary part is he is still able to drive around anywhere he wants to until the test has come back and he's charged. That's what needs to be changed. Ashley and Joe, I am heartbroken for you and your family. The Lord will love and keep you in his care until the day you meet again.

He should have been locked up immediately

Little Lamb says: "In the long run, it does not matter whether the lab gets the alcohol results back in 6 days, six weeks, or six months. Justice will be done."

It DOES matter because he is still running around loose and on the streets and driving. What's to keep him from drinking & driving & killing someone else? He should have been locked up in jail immediately to protect the public and for punishment. THAT'S why it matters! They know he was way over the legal limit just based on what they do know (3 times over the limit- so it's not even close!), so that should be enough to justify locking him up- keep him locked up while the 6 weeks is running for the more official testing.
