Columbia County Sheriff’s Capt. Steve Morris said it could take up to six weeks to get test results for Lucky Wade Jackson Jr., 43, of Buxton Drive in Evans. Alcohol was a contributing factor in the wreck, according to the sheriff’s office accident report.
Police say Jackson drove through a red light on Washington Road at Ronald Reagan Drive just before midnight, striking the car of Jordan Elizabeth White, 19. She died Thursday from her injuries.
White, a 2011 Evans High School graduate, was studying at Augusta State University while working at Firehouse Subs, according to her Facebook page.
White was making a left turn off of Ronald Reagan Drive on a green arrow about 11:45 p.m. when Jackson, driving a Ford F-250 truck, ran the red light heading west and hit the driver’s side door of White’s Honda Accord, according to the report. The Honda spun and landed on the shoulder more than 400 feet from the intersection near Regions Bank.
There were no skid marks from Jackson’s truck, indicating he did not brake before the collision, according to the report.
Jackson’s truck then crossed the center line and hit a stopped tractor-trailer, according to the report.
One of White’s passengers, Corey Jalen Davis, 19, of Cyndee Circle in Martinez, is in good condition, according to a Medical College of Georgia Hospital spokeswoman. She had no listing for the other passenger, Clinton McArthur Gayman, 22, of Belglade Road in Grovetown, who also was taken to the hospital.
The tractor-trailer driver, Shellie Curtis Patterson, of Lincolnton, Ga., was not injured.
Jackson suffered minor injuries and was treated and released from Medical College of Georgia Hospital.
