A woman was assaulted with a handgun Thursday morning by a man who impersonated an off-duty police officer, police said.

According to a news release from Richmond County sheriff’s Lt. Blaise Dresser, a woman was walking near Eve and Walker streets about 8 a.m. when a man in a pickup pulled alongside her. The man identified himself as a police officer and showed her a gold star badge before offering her a ride.

The woman entered the truck and was driven to the 2100 block of Hicks Street, where the man demanded sexual acts, Dresser said. The woman refused and was assaulted with a handgun. The man then allowed her to leave.

The man is described as black, heavyset, clean-shaven and 35 to 40 years old. He was wearing a black T-shirt and dark gym shorts.

The vehicle is described as a two-tone gold 1990s standard-cab truck. The top portion was darker than the lower portion.

Anyone with information on the case is asked to contact the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office at (706) 821-1080 or (706) 821-1020. Callers can remain anonymous.

Never.

I will never resign myself to expect THAT in our community. Share the information and let's turn this alleged assailant in to the proper authorities for investigation and possible prosecution.

Someone was watching over her

Someone was watching over her because shes lucky he let her go. I hope they also broadcast this on tv to help spread the word even quicker. Then again our tv news is more interested in the county commissioners. I hope they find this !@# before it happens again.

Dangerous

We're supposed to not fear our protectors (the police) but when something like this happens it hurts our Law enforcement personnel and hamstrings them by some misguided souls!

This is terrible

I surely hope they catch this guy, but we have to go back to what our mama always said when we were kids....NEVER get into a car of a stranger!
