A woman was assaulted with a handgun Thursday morning by a man who impersonated an off-duty police officer, police said.
According to a news release from Richmond County sheriff’s Lt. Blaise Dresser, a woman was walking near Eve and Walker streets about 8 a.m. when a man in a pickup pulled alongside her. The man identified himself as a police officer and showed her a gold star badge before offering her a ride.
The woman entered the truck and was driven to the 2100 block of Hicks Street, where the man demanded sexual acts, Dresser said. The woman refused and was assaulted with a handgun. The man then allowed her to leave.
The man is described as black, heavyset, clean-shaven and 35 to 40 years old. He was wearing a black T-shirt and dark gym shorts.
The vehicle is described as a two-tone gold 1990s standard-cab truck. The top portion was darker than the lower portion.
