Editor's Note: Mr. Steiner was not prosecuted for these charges because he pleaded guilty to a different accusation revolving around the same set of facts.
A man is in Richmond County jail Tuesday on multiple charges after a woman woke up to him standing over her naked, authorities said.
According to an incident report, police were called to the 2000 block of Gardner Street a little before 2 a.m., where a 57-year-old woman woke up to a man standing over her with his shirt in his hand, she told deputies. She started screaming and he took off running. Her screams woke up two of her roommates, who both said they looked outside for him, but he was gone.
The report said police found a pair of shorts, boxers, a visor and a white T-shirt on the floor of the living room that the woman did not recognize. In the pocket of the shorts, deputies found identification for Franz Olaf Steiner, 41.
All three women said they had seen Steiner in the neighborhood cutting grass and that he had asked to cut their grass a few times before, and each time would rub up against them.
Police found Steiner’s girlfriend at his residence in the 1900 block of Battle Row. She told police she had last seen him in a white T-shirt, hat and shorts.
A day earlier, a woman on Battle Row called police around 2:30 p.m. after she said she saw Steiner standing in his front door touching himself, according to another incident report.
Steiner is charged with public indecency, burglary and felony criminal attempt, according to jail records.
