Richmond County authorities are investigating the theft of vehicle batteries and copper wire from a Georgia Power substation.

According to an incident report, employees returned to the substation at 1705 Marvin Griffin Road about 7:30 a.m. Monday to find someone had cut through a fence and removed the items during the weekend.

Police said the thief cut through a chain fence and removed two batteries from flat bed trucks and one battery from a backhoe.

The thief then cut through a padlock and removed a roll of copper wire valued at $200.
