The North Augusta Department of Public Safety arrested five people during a raid at an apartment complex on Bradleyville Road this week, according to a news release.

At about 10 a.m. Wednesday, the department’s SWAT team executed a narcotics search warrant on an apartment in Ridgeview Manor after a monthlong investigation into complaints by neighbors of drug activity. Lt. Tim Thornton said officers confiscated “a significant amount” of cocaine, ecstasy, marijuana and more than $1,000.

Matthew Whittaker, 25, Jasmine Burley, 22, Antonio Goodwin, 36, and Ladevarian Marquis, 26, all of North Augusta, and Tavarius Burley, 21, of Augusta, were arrested on charges that included possession with intent to distribute and disobeying a lawful order of police.

The Bureau of Alcohol Tobacco and Firearm’s Regional Anti-Gang Enforcement unit assisted in the raid, the release said.

Well, maybe I'm being a bit too harsh on the chronicle. If it was a week day tomorrow, Mary Liz Nolan would be reading the story to us from the chronicle.

Jokes aside, the War on Drugs is a total failure that has costs us billions of dollars. It's time to try something different.
