Investigation into Fort Gordon's private's death still open

The investigation into the death of a soldier who fell from the second floor of his Fort Gordon barracks remains open.

In response to a request for records pertaining to the investigation, the Army said the investigation “is in progress with an undetermined completion date.”

According to Fort Gordon public affairs, Pfc. Joseph Myers, 22, of the 297th Military Intelligence Bat­talion, received a “major” head injury when he fell June 22. He was taken to Medical College of Georgia Hospital, where he was placed on life support until he died the next day.

Fort Gordon personnel say it was an accident.
