Police are searching for a woman accused of cashing fraudlent checks from the Motel 6 at 201 Boy Scout Road, according to a Richmond County Sheriff’s Office report.

About 3 p.m. Monday, the manager of the motel called police and told them a former employee had manufactured checks using the motel’s checking account numbers and cashed them for $515.27 and $641.17.

The report said the same employee also had used the Motel 6 account to pay her water bill in the past year.

Just plain dumb

This deserves to be on an episode of World's Dumbest Criminals. It really blows my mind that somebody could think they would get away with this. She had to make the checks out to herself or someone close to her, right? It's almost as bad as the story of a bank robber handing the teller a note demanding cash written on the back of his business card, or of someone ordering pizza and then holding up the pizza guy on his own front doorstep. She certainly didn't make it very hard to figure out whodunit.
