Shortly after 9 a.m. Monday, officers were dispatched to the intersection of West and Pine Grove avenues and found Hope Ellis Campbell, 46, of Grovetown, injured, according to an e-mail from Lt. Tim Thornton.

Campbell, executive director of St. Stephen, told officers she had spotted Venisha Brown, an employee who had stolen a gray Chevrolet Suburban from the ministry on Greene Street in Augusta.

Campbell said she reached into the car to try to take the keys, but Brown quickly accelerated, dragging Campbell into and over the hood of another vehicle parked in front of the Suburban, according to Thornton. The extent of her injuries was not released.

Brown drove away and was last seen headed into Georgia across the 13th Street Bridge.

Richmond County sheriff’s Lt. Jimmy Young said Brown took the Suburban from the ministries’ building on Sunday and Campbell had reported the theft.

Brown is charged in warrants with possession of a stolen vehicle, leaving the scene of an accident and first degree assault and battery.

Hey, Summer Moore. Are you

Hey, Summer Moore. Are you certain this is a photo of Venisha, because it looks a lot like Denise? At first, I thought, it was because they are sisters, but, after the other photo was put up on the arrest piece, not sure this one is accurate. If not, it would be a shame to put up the wrong sister's image. Would you check on it?

@ Willow

That is Venisha Brown in a 2007 photo. I checked other photos from our archive and they match.

Daddy Brown

I remember that day also, him shooting up cars and having a hi-falootin time. He pulled up beside me once close to his office across from Doctor's Hospital. He was in the Mercedes SL roadster. Boy he was packed into that little car. Had to use butter to get in! Remember his mugshot in Aiken in later years with purple hair and frumpy housecoat?

ICL: Yeah, I follow. I guess

ICL: Yeah, I follow. I guess the "in front of" part is what threw me off. If the other car is a space over I would've called it "next to" instead. Semantics.
