Richmond County police seek shoplifter

  • Follow Crime & courts

Richmond County deputies are seeking a shoplifter who fled from arrest Friday after two loss prevention officers saw him stealing two pairs of $100 sunglasses.

According to a police report, the shoplifter was seen taking the sunglasses from a rack at Dillard’s in Augusta Mall.

The deputies told him to stop, but the thief fled to the parking lot, got into a gray SUV and locked the doors.

He started the car and sped out of the parking space and almost hit a
deputy as the car swung around, according to the report.

The deputy hit the passenger window with his baton to try to make the suspect stop, but he drove away.

The shoplifter is being sought on charges of theft, reckless conduct and obstruction of a law enforcement officer.

More info please

Since this is an initial Staff report, details are still coming in.

Citizens of are fed up with area punks and thugs practicing to be Want-a-be Gang Bangers in our town and shopping areas.

I look forward to seeing the additional details so we can all help. Also with all the security cameras there has to be Video and still pictures so setup a URL link to the security cam pictures, if available.

There are enough of us out here willing keep an eye out and start calling 706-821-1080 (RCSO Dispatch) to provide the Who and Where and get these dangerous and reckless fool brought in.

Any punk willing to run over a person or especially a RCSO deputy over sun glasses has determine every ones life is worth less than his and/or $200 worth of stolen stuff. These Punks need to be removed from society streets and place of work details until they appreciate the freedom they had.

Off the Cuff: With the limited number of exits, stop lights, side streets, very few shortcuts and the common traffic issues precluding any quick escape. This punk obviously violated a lot of traffic laws, thus placing dozens of more citizens at risk in the process.

May I suggestion to any Judges reading this comment that a good start for such events would be:

* Driver license revoked for at least 10 years

* Making him ride Mass Transit to work, school, shopping and dating.

* Ban him from the Mall and mall parking lot for __ number of years.

Once again hats off to the RCSO Deputies for demonstrating restraint and not shooting the punk or his SUV in the crowded mall area.

I don't like this "let them

I don't like this "let them go and we will pick them up later" philosophy. If they run, shoot them. Taxpayers provide cops with guns. They are not for personal protection. They are to STOP criminals. Use them....frequently.

I usually agree 100% with your posts, but I can't here. Too much opportunity to endanger others with gunfire, and I don't think any officer wants to live with shooting a kid who was just scared. I'm all for throwing the legal book at them, but not the death penalty for rash judgment.

Your comment is flawed if the following is accurate!

He started the car and sped out of the parking space and almost hit a deputy as the car swung around, according to the report.

The deputy hit the passenger window with his baton to try to make the suspect stop, but he drove away.

A bullet would have found it's mark without collateral damage if you are close enough to "hit the passenger window with his baton."

Window must have been up if a baton hit it. So much for pepper spray. Don't know about tasers.

No one needs to die over two

No one needs to die over two pair of 100.00 dollar sunglasses. RC will fine him sooner or later. I agree the suspect indangered the deputy but they are trained in these matters. Too many sinceless deathes by gunfire.
