Grocery stores report counterfeit bills

Officers were called to a Wrightsboro Road supermarket Saturday after someone purchased gift cards with more than $400 in counterfeit bills.

According to a police report, a man entered Kroger, 3435 Wrightsboro Road, around 6 p.m. and bought $500 in gift cards.

After the purchase, the cashier took the bills to a manager’s attention.

It appeared that $50 was real and $450 was counterfeit.

Police say similar incidents have occurred elsewhere, with $500 being passed at Kroger, 2801 Washington Road, and $800 at Publix, 2816 Washington Road.
