Man faces 13 charges in high-speed Augusta chase

Benjamin Justin Hixon faces 13 criminal charges after a high-speed chase, including two counts of endangering a child by driving under the influence and one count of littering for reportedly throwing beer cans on the highway.

A criminal indictment returned Tuesday says that Hixon fled from Richmond County deputies while driving drunk June 12. Riding with him were two children under the age of 14, according to the indictment.

The other 10 charges against Hixon are: fleeing and attempting to elude a law enforcement officer; driving under the influence of alcohol; driving with an excessive blood alcohol concentration; obstruction of a law enforcement officer; reckless driving; violation of the open container law; violation of the child restraint law; speeding; improper passing; and driving without a seat belt.
