A 65-year-old woman is in the hospital and her accused assailant is in jail after a shooting on McCormick Street in Aiken, authorities said.

At 5:30 p.m., Aiken County Sheriff’s deputies were called to the 600 block of McCormick Street in reference to a shooting. Once there, they found Marie Jefferson wounded, according to an email from Sgt. Jason Feemster. The extent of her injuries was not released.

Witnesses told deputies Sharne Breland Rickenbacker, 44, had shot her and gave a description of her car. Officers found her on the 1000 block of Pine Crest Avenue, Feemster said.

Rickenbacker was arrested and charged with attempted murder and possession of a weapon during the commission of a crime.

Feemster said authorities were unsure what the motive was in the shooting.

To help ease the medical cost

To help ease the medical cost burden on all of us, Ms Rickenbacker needs to be saddled with the victim's medical bills when she gets out of prison.

Don't worry, he'll read it!

Don't worry, he'll read it! And then point out how nobody is commenting on it in another article on a crime elsewhere.

This is such an odd story. The Aiken Standard had a few extra details about what happened that they have since removed (strangely enough). One being that the woman who was shot first pulled her car (before the shooting) into the yard of a family who had never even seen her before. Apparently the suspect asked these folks for a cigarette while she was detained in a squad car, to which the homeowner told her she wasn't giving her anything for bringing 15 cop cars to her house. More details will soon emerge.
